Popcorn is probably one of the healthiest snacks. They are the ultimate snack for a movie night. No matter the time of year, or what the weather is like, cozying up on the couch to watch a flick and enjoy a bucket of popcorn is always the closest thing to heaven.
However, you can turn a plain snack into a great one. The following recipes give the regular popcorn flavor a rather creative twist.
Pizza Popcorn
Did you say pizza? All in! It is actually oven roasted pizza popcorn.
Ingredients
- 12 cups air popped popcorn
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon basil
- hot sauce
- 1 1/2 cups freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F. Melt the butter and add the paprika, garlic powder, salt, oregano, basil and hot sauce. Stir vigorously. Toss this mixture along with the Parmesan cheese over the popped popcorn. Pour this mixture into a shallow roasting oven pan and roast at 350°F for 10-15 minutes.
Mexican Popcorn
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 lime, juiced and zested
- 3 Tablespoons coconut oil, divided
Instructions
Heat two tablespoons of coconut oil. Add the cumin, chili powder, cayenne, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, and the lime juice. Stir vigorously while you prepare the popcorn. Heat the stove-top popper with one tablespoon of coconut oil. Pop the popcorn according to instructions. Pour the popcorn into your bowl and stir in half of the above mixture and mix. Add the remaining spice mixture and shake.
Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Popcorn
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons oil (peanut or canola)
- 1/3 cup popcorn kernels
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate or semisweet melted chocolate chips
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
How to Prepare
Pop your popcorn as you usually do using 2 tablespoons of oil. Prepare an oven pan and pour the popcorn on it. Make sure no unpopped kernels fall into this pan. Drizzle the popcorn with the chocolate and sprinkle with some salt. Toss the popcorn for an even distribution. Let it cool for a while and enjoy!
